Ms. Fenner's Picture

The 2008-2009 marks the beginning of Ms. Fenner’s third year as a History teacher and Model UN coach at Excel High School. Cara Fenner was born in the Bronx, NY and raised in Poughkeepsie, NY, a small city 80 miles north of NYC on the Hudson River. She attended the University of Michigan where she earned a BA in History, Spanish, and Latin American Studies. After graduating, Ms. Fenner spent a year working for a non-profit coordinating services and advocacy for immigrant students involved in migrant farm work. This experience made Ms. Fenner realize that she wanted to be more involved with students, so she pursued a career in teaching, completing an MA in Teaching Social Studies at Teachers College, Columbia University in 2003, and she has been teaching in New York and Boston. Ms. Fenner believes that a person “does not achieve his full height until he is educated” (Horace Mann) and to this end, loves working with Excel students. She most enjoys their ideas, hard work, and their conversation. In her free time, Ms. Fenner likes to travel, run around, and enjoy music, theater, art, movies and friends.
